SIL Assignment

Safety functions with a specific reliability level using instrumented systems are termed Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs), and must meet special design criteria. These criteria are partly determined based on the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) necessary for the function. In order to determine the necessary SIL of an SIF, a SIL Assignment study is conducted. We integrate the SIL Assignment process into the Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
